Institute of BMS presented a laser device to restore biological tissues at Expocentre

A laser device for the restoration of biological tissues, developed by the Institute of Biomedical Systems and the design bureau “BULAT”, was presented at “Photonics. The world of lasers and optics” exhibition.

The 16th international specialized exhibition of laser, optical and optoelectronic equipment “Photonics. The world of lasers and optics” is the most visited and important industry event in Russia. This year it was held from March 29 to April 1 at Expocentre.

Also MIET scientists participated in the business program. Candidate of Science Engineering, Associate Professor of the Institute of BMS Kirill Pozhar spoke about the usage of IR laser diodes for medical sensors. Candidate of Physics and Mathematics Sciences, Associate Professor of the Institute of BMS Alexander Gerasimenko presented the technology of laser-assisted soldering with temperature control and biopolymer frame nanosolders for the restoration of soft biological tissues.

The scientist said that to develop the apparatus, MIET and Sechenov University developed algorithms that would allow maintaining the required temperature in the device throughout the entire process of welding dissected tissues. “At the end we proved that the seams welded with our laser device are characterized by the tightest fit of the tissue and the least inflammatory reaction than standard methods of seam formation,” explained A.Yu. Gerasimenko.

The new laser device was demonstrated for the first time. Now it is being tested at the Institute of Dentistry of Sechenov University.

According to the scientists, the development will be interesting for medium and large medical institutions with departments of general, maxillofacial, urological and gynecological surgery.
