MIET-AIS satellite entered orbit
Today the carrier rocket “Soyuz-2.1b” launched into orbit a satellite, developed by schoolchildren, students and scientists from MIET. The launch took place at the Baikonur Cosmodrome. MIET-AIS device was developed on the basis of the CubeSat OrbiCraft-Pro SXC3 satellite platform by SPUTNIX.
Except MIET-AIS there were some other devices under the head fairing of the rocket: CubeSX-HSE-2, Monitor-1, UTMN, CYCLOPS, Siren, KAI-1, Kuzbass-300, Skoltech-B1, Skoltech-B2, Polytech Universe-1, Polytech Universe-2, Vizard, Geoscan-Edelweiss, ISOI and ReshUCube.
The satellite form factor is CubeSat 3U, the main purpose of the payload is to receive signals from automatic identification system transmitters installed on ships. The data obtained from the satellite is necessary to prevent collisions of ships, control their traffic, in particular, along the Northern Sea Route, where the traffic is quite high and constantly increasing, as well as for search and rescue operations.
Students and schoolchildren will use the information received via satellite to develop new approaches and algorithms for automating the movement of ships, using artificial intelligence. In addition, it is planned to develop transceiver equipment, as well as new satellites and payloads.
