How foreigners study at the Institute of Systems and Software Engineering and Information Technology

Institute of Systems and Software Engineering and Information Technology has a vast experience in teaching foreigners. In the early 2000s, foreign students were undergraduates and postgraduates of the Republic of Myanmar, much later from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Moldova and the other former USSR countries who wanted to become programmers. The number of foreign students who wanted to study in MIET increased annually, that is why the program for foreigners "Software components of information systems" in the program "Software Engineering" (bachelor's degree) was opened.

This year the rules of admission to master program are the same as for Russians: foreign citizens can participate in the competition of creative works and have a significant advantage in points.

Many students and lecturers note that the most difficult subject is higher mathematics. Also there is a language barrier. Special Association of Foreign Students, Russian-speaking club, Buddy program help students with adaptation.

The Institute has developed specialized modules for foreign students in English, which represent a specific discipline with all its components (lectures, seminars, laboratory and practical work, consultations, qualifying tests and exams). These modules can be used both in conjunction with other modules in the form of an entire educational program, and separately.

The developed modules include:

  • Interfaces (IOS);
  • Mobile Application Design, Distributed Programmming;
  • Cloud Computing;
  • Web Service;
  • Android OS;
  • Modern Tools and Technologies;
  • Internet P2P;
  • Semantic Web.

The listed modules are ready for use both in the form of additional educational programs and in the form of electives. They can be used with high efficiency for foreign students, within the framework of summer schools and for customized educational courses, as well as for distance learning, which does not lose its relevance.

"We are well-prepared for modular education, – says Larisa Gagarina, the director of the Institute. – Teaching of these disciplines is entrusted to young candidates of technical sciences with excellent knowledge of English. The entire staff has not only pedagogical talent and the ability to find a common language with students, but also rich teaching experience: at MIET, Skolkovo, at various enterprises and in a number of organizations located abroad".
