MIET takes care of an owl from the Moscow Zoo

MIET became the official guardian of the long-eared owl (Asio otus) at the Moscow Zoo. She lives together with two other species of owls, short-eared owl and tawny owl, in the "Russian Forest" aviary in the Zoo's Old Territory.

"The choice of an owl is not accidental, this bird symbolizes wisdom and knowledge," comments Maria Dobrynina, vice rector for Youth Policy and Extracurricular Activities. – And for MIET, the owl is one of the animals present on the official coat of arms of the university. We are glad that from now on our university will contribute to the development of the Moscow Zoo and its environmental programs."

The Moscow Zoo is one of the oldest in Europe and one of the largest in Russia. It is in the top ten zoos of the world with the most extensive range of animals. Today, it contains and reproduces the rarest species of animals – from Amur leopards and manuls to Chinese crocodile lizards and Luristan newts. The zoo also has a unique collection of venomous snakes which is unparalleled anywhere in the world.
