MIET signs agreement with East China Normal University

On April 16, 2026 a delegation from the National Research University of Electronic Technology (MIET) paid a visit to one of the leading universities of the People's Republic of China – East China Normal University (ECNU).

The MIET delegation was represented by Alexey Dronov, Vice-Rector for Research, Petr Lazarenko, Deputy Director of the Institute of Advanced Materials and Technologies, Head of the research laboratory «Materials and Devices for Active Photonics» and Maxim Silibin, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology.

East China Normal University, located in Shanghai, is one of the most prestigious educational and research centers in China. The university has achieved considerable success in training highly qualified personnel and conducting fundamental and applied scientific research over decades of development.

The main purpose of the visit was the ceremonial signing of a cooperation agreement between the two universities.

ECNU Vice-Rector for Research Shi Guoyue warmly welcomed the delegation members and noted that in light of the important «China-Russia Year of Education» initiative cooperation between the two universities in the field of microelectronics including joint research, the joint establishment of laboratories and joint talent cultivation is of great significance and represents a timely step that will promote the development of educational exchanges and cooperation between China and Russia.

Alexey Dronov noted that the cooperation agreement between MIET and ECNU was signed within the framework of the reciprocal Years of Russia–China Cooperation in Education. For MIET cooperation with ECNU opens new opportunities for the implementation of international educational and research projects, the mutual adoption of best university practices, academic exchanges and the long-term strengthening of the international partnership between Russia and China.

The agreement provides for the launch of student and faculty exchange programs, the creation of educational and research platforms and the organization of international-level events.

An important part of the visit was a meeting where joint research results obtained by researchers from the MIET laboratory «Materials and Devices for Active Photonics», the School of Information and Electronic Engineering of ECNU and the Institute of Physics of the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia were presented. Joint research is being carried out within the framework of an RSF project (click here for detailed information) conducted under the guidance of professor A.V. Kolobov and professor Yan Cheng.

In addition to presenting scientific results, the meeting addressed opportunities for further expanding cooperation. In particular, discussions were held on establishing a joint international laboratory, holding a joint Russian-Chinese school on materials science, and the participation of ECNU scientists in the International Conference FunChaPTA-2, which will take place at MIET from June 29 to July 3.
