MIET students take part in the "Explore the Mysteries of Chips" summer school in China
From July 4 to 18, five MIET students — Sergey Lobov (EN-22M), Darya Isachenko (EN-21M), Alexandra Gorbunova (2nd-year postgraduate student, specialisation 2.2.2), Ekaterina Andropova (KT-21M) and Alisiya Suleymanova (EN-27M) — all took part in the "Explore the Mysteries of Chips" summer school in China at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. This immersive English‑language programme focuses on microchips and is open to outstanding undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students from around the world. The school applies a three‑stage "see – learn – create" teaching approach, which enables students to build a microchip from scratch and test it during their stay.
The programme included a series of lectures and visits to thematic museums, classes in semiconductor physics, integrated circuit design and micro‑ and nanoelectronics manufacturing technologies, followed by work in a cleanroom where each participant independently carried out the key stages of device fabrication: oxidation, photolithography, metallization and testing of finished samples with current and voltage measurements. Separate sessions covered promising industry areas such as non‑destructive testing systems. Beyond the academic component, the organisers put together a rich cultural programme: excursions around Chengdu, visits to museums and the Panda Valley, folk craft workshops, and evening social events for students.
The school concluded with a closing ceremony and a group discussion of the results. Participants gained new competences as well as hands‑on experience working in a multicultural team.
