MIET hosted a lecture by Nobel laureate Zhores Alferov
On November 18 within the framework of the 50th anniversary of the National Research University of Electronic Technology, the university was visited by Nobel laureate in Physics, Academician Zhores Alferov. The theme of his lecture was "2015 – Year of Light. Efficient light conversion and generation".
At the beginning of the event MIET rector Yuri Chaplygin thanked Zhores Alferov for his visiting the university: "This is a great honor for MIET students. The works, for which Zhores Alferov was awarded the Nobel Prize, are associated with microelectronics, heterostructures on the basis of which lasers and microwave integrated circuits are produced. These particular scientific subjects are very important for MIET and Zelenograd in general".
Zhores Alferov spoke about the history of the study of light and energy from the time of Albert Einstein to the present day. He gave special attention to the theme of efficient light conversion and generation, presented modern technologies in optoelectronics and photonics, solar energy and energy efficiency.
We would remind you that Zhores Alferov was awarded the Nobel Prize in physics for "for developing semiconductor heterostructures used in high-speed- and opto-electronics" (in cooperation with Herbert Kroemer and Jack Kilby) in 2000.
After the lecture Zhores Alferov was ceremoniously awarded the title of "Honorary professor of MIET".
