HISTORY

In 1990 MIET was opened for foreign students' learning and developing scientific and technical relations with foreign universities and research organizations. In the same year the Department of International Relations was established to develop international cooperation and organize the enrollment and stay of foreign citizens.

A variety of contracts for developing, promotion and support of Russian education abroad were concluded during the existence of the Department of International Relations.

In 2009 the Faculty of Foreign Student Education was established, later, in 2019 it was transformed into the Institute of International Studies.

A lot of foreign students from India, Iraq, Cameroon, China, South Korea, Syria, Ghana, Morocco, Colombia, Venezuela, Iran, Vietnam, Egypt, Serbia, Angola, Yemen, Afghanistan, Albania, Australia, France, Kenya, Israel, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Germany, Georgia and the CIS countries have already graduated from MIET, while others continue their education here.

GENERAL INFORMATION

MIET collaborates with leading foreign universities, participates in student and faculty exchange programs. The university regularly hosts lectures by distinguished foreign professors and representatives of major international companies. Some courses for master's students are taught in English by MIET faculty.

The main objectives of the Institute of International Studies are:

● teaching foreign students using Russian-language and English-language educational programs;

● integrating of MIET into the international educational space;

● development of competitive educational programs to attract foreign students to MIET;

● expansion of academic relations with foreign universities;

● coordinating MIET departments in training foreign students;

● support of international educational projects in partnership with MIET;

● running promotional campaigns for MIET educational programs abroad.

About 300 foreign students from 30 countries study at MIET. About 30% of foreign students are Myanmar citizens, studying at MIET according to the agreement signed by the heads of the two states. Traditionally, MIET enrolls many students from former republics of the USSR: Moldova, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus, and others.

FOREIGN PARTNERS

The university implements elite specialist training programs jointly with a number of leading foreign companies in the Hi-Tech field: Microsoft, Cisco, Cadence, Synopsys, Freescale Semiconductor, Mentor Graphics, and others.

One of the most promising international centers at MIET is the Device and system design, (DSD) MIET-Cadence, which began its work in 2002. DSD trains highly qualified personnel in the development and design of analog and mixed-signal microchips, as well as «systems on a chip». Cadence Design Systems provided workstations, a server, and the full version of its latest software for the closed-loop design of ultra-large-scale integrated circuits to carry out the joint project with MIET.

In 2006 MIET launched a new educational program jointly with Synopsys, one of the world leaders in electronic automated design and development of software tools for designing integrated circuits. Synopsys provides MIET with financial support for setting up and conducting training courses, supplies licensed software which worth several million dollars, funds equipment in the training center, and offers technical support and training for the university's faculty.

The educational and scientific design center «Mentor Graphics-MIET» was established in 2005 under an agreement between MIET and Mentor Graphics to train specialists and master's students majoring in «Design and Technology of Electronic Devices». Mentor Graphics underwrote a part of MIET's expenses for implementing the student training course and, in addition to its own CAD resources, supplied the university with computer workstations, a server, an auxiliary archiving system, and a set of network equipment for the local area network.

MIET is a permanent partner and co-organizer of the IEEE International Conference on Computing for Sustainability and Intelligent Future, held by the BMS Institute of Technology and Management (Bangalore, India).

The work of all MIET international centers is based on similar principles. The University's foreign partners provide the latest hardware and software, which allows MIET to train unique specialists who are capable of working with world-class technologies upon graduation.
