MIET ranked among Russia's entrepreneurial universities and business schools
The rating of entrepreneurial universities and business schools of Russia 2023, published on October 16, included 50 Russian educational organizations, including MIET. The research for the rating was conducted by the Analytical Center "Expert" and it allowed to identify universities whose graduates were able to create internationally notable startups. In this year's rating, MIET placed 21-22.
The rating is based on 4 indicators of the scale and success of universities in terms of technological entrepreneurship: the number of graduates of a Russian university (or business school) who have created a startup in any of the countries (30%); the number of startups founded by graduates (30%); the volume of investments attracted by startups (30%); the share of financially supported startups (startups with non-zero investments) (10%). The rating is made up only by the universities from which at least 15 startups have come out.
The main source of data is the international database Crunchbase . The first stage of selecting startups and their founders from the entire volume of Crunchbase information included 967 thousand companies founded in 2009-2023.
At the second stage, startups of Russian origin were selected with about 4,000 startups and 4,000 startup founders selected. The final stage is an in-depth verification of the founders education using Crunchbase, AngelList, social media and other sources.
The experts believe that geopolitical factors have had a serious impact on the development of world-class Russian technology companies. The demand for technologies capable of solving critical tasks in the industry and the social sector has grown a lot. Technological entrepreneurs can also satisfy this demand. But there should be a lot of them. In order to increase the interest of university graduates in this type of activity, the government of the Russian Federation launched the federal project "Platform of University Technological Entrepreneurship".
"We are implementing all university events on technological entrepreneurship within this project. Entrepreneurial competencies workshops allow to involve a large number of students and provide them an opportunity to give entrepreneurship a try. Last year, the acceleration program helped students and graduates with more than 60 startup projects. In the near future, the MIET Startup Studio will be integrated into this process. It will strengthen the work on creating startups in the university and will provide additional jobs," said Maria Dobrynina, Vice-rector for Youth Policy and Extracurricular Activities.
