MIET's Project Presented at ENVIROMIS‑2026

Associate Professor of the Institute of Advanced Materials and Technologies (AMT) Natalia Popova and postgraduate student Maria Chudakova took part in the Russian Conference with International Participation ENVIROMIS‑2026, held from June 29 to July 3 in Novosibirsk.

The conference was organised by leading research centres of the country: the Institute of Computational Mathematics and Mathematical Geophysics SB RAS, the Institute of Monitoring of Climatic and Ecological Systems SB RAS, the Marchuk Institute of Numerical Mathematics RAS, the Research Computing Centre of Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Obukhov Institute of Atmospheric Physics RAS, the Moscow Center for Fundamental and Applied Mathematics, the Hydrometeorological Centre of Russia, and Novosibirsk State University.

The discussions focused on climate dynamics and extreme weather‑climate events, climate and meteorological modelling, energy system optimisation, atmospheric composition and pollutant transport, machine learning in Earth sciences, the structure of geophysical boundary layers, as well as modelling of processes in the terrestrial active layer.

Maria Chudakova delivered a presentation on the topic: "Development of a Hybrid Dispersion Model for a Digital Twin of Urban Air Quality (Case Study of Zelenograd)." The research is interdisciplinary, combining expertise in environmental modelling (AMT) and web‑platform development and machine learning (Institute of Systems and Software Engineering and Information Technology). The presentation covered both the hybrid model itself (a physical core with ML‑based calibration) and the web‑platform "KudaDym" — an educational simulator for modelling the dispersion of pollutants in the atmosphere and calibrating dispersion models for specific cities. The web‑platform drew particular interest from participants as a ready‑to‑use tool for creating digital twins of urban air quality, as well as for training environmental specialists and ML practitioners.

An important part of the event was about productive networking and discussions on potential collaboration with colleagues from the Institute of Computational Mathematics and Mathematical Geophysics SB RAS, the Faculty of Geography's Department of Meteorology and Climatology at Moscow State University, the MSU Marine Research Center, the Russian State Hydrometeorological University, the Dokuchaev Soil Science Institute, and the Planeta Research Centre for Space Hydrometeorology.
