MIET and the National Medical Research Radiological Center Sign Cooperation Agreement
MIET and the National Medical Research Radiological Center of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation have signed a cooperation agreement in research and education focused on the development of medical devices. Together, they will work on stationary, wearable, and implantable biomedical electronics, as well as microelectronic technologies for creating multi‑scale implantable neurointerfaces for human‑machine systems designed to control the transmission of pain signals to the brain.
The agreement was a result of the work done at the "MIN in Oncology" section of the conference "Microelectronic Implantable Neurointerfaces 2025" (MIN‑2025), held as part of MIET's large‑scale research project "Microelectronic Technologies for Multi‑Scale Implantable Neurointerfaces of Human‑Machine Systems for Controlling Pain Signal Transmission to the Brain."
MIET Rector Sergey Gavrilov and Andrey Kaprin, Director General of the National Medical Research Radiological Center and Chief Oncologist of the Russian Federation, signed the agreement. The signing coincided with Kaprin's anniversary, on which occasion Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized his achievements in early diagnosis, cancer prevention, and treatment, as well as the thousands of lives saved through his research and experience.
"Developing microelectronic systems for targeted drug delivery to specific areas of the body holds great promise for creating a fundamentally new, high‑tech method of treating chronic pain that cannot be managed by drugs or neurostimulation alone. Integrated microelectronic systems combining targeted drug delivery and electrical neurostimulation will help block pain in patients with concomitant oncological diseases, improving their quality of life," says Alexander Gerasimenko, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, Professor, and Deputy Director for Research at the Institute of Biomedical Systems.
